Clocks

This is where it started for me. Bicycle rim clocks. Not a new concept by any means, but I think the incorporation of the recycled pallet wood sets them apart a bit. It's amazing sometimes how nicely the wood cleans up.

These are definitely a labour of love though. It's not uncommon for me to spend close to an hour and a half just taking all the spokes out, running the dirty and corroded rim through a wire wheel on a bench grinder for a while, then super fine sandpaper or steel wool - and then individually cleaning each spoke in case I want to incorporate them somehow. Tire or no tire is your preference. I only add $10 if you want the tire, mostly to cover the time involved in cleaning it up.

And I intentionally leave some of the dings, scratches, and battle scars on the rims - I want people to know that the rim has a history, and hasn't just been purchased new!

I sort of classify my work as Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 at the moment.

Series 1 includes my first designs; lots of love, but experimenting with designs and enjoying the learning curve. These tend to be at lower price points, and could make great gifts/additions to kid's rooms, workshops, or areas where a visual novelty is appreciated. Series 1 clocks tend to be in the $85 to $100 price range.

Series 2 projects are more detailed, more complicated, and take more time. A bit more time spent on fit and finish. Better suited to a location where they will be 'actively' viewed, and reflective of the craftmanship (craftspersonship?) and effort required. Series 2 clocks are around the $115 mark.

Series 3 is where I try to push the envelope a bit. Trying to make things I haven't seen before, and that take more trial and error AND time to get things right. Probably best for real cycling afficianados looking for a conversation piece. Series 3 clocks range from around $135 to $145.

Please email me to chat about your project, how you'd like it customized, features to include, and we can talk about price and shipping!
